Portfolio
On this page you will find a selection of my work that I hope will show my abilities as a content producer with a good understanding of the power of video and photography for campaigns and social media engagement.
Photography
I have been a keen photographer since I was 17 and have worked as a freelance photographer for many year. I have used photography in most of roles to create social media content and support my film work. Wildlife photography also remains a passion of mine.
earthsight
I have made multiple films for this campaigning NGO, most recently filming and editing a series of films on Paraguay. I have also edited films from stock and archive footage to make hard-hitting short social media films that highlight the work of Earthsight, drive traffic to their campaign pages and reports, and build a following on social media. These videos have gained over a million views across all channels and languages and created website traffic and social media engagement many times higher than any output without video.
Talya Baldwin
This film was a commission by the artist and author Talya Baldwin. We travelled to St Kilda to film and photograph her as she wrote her phd thesis and wrote a new children’s book based on the history and nature of the islands. Despite bad weather resulting in cutting the trip in half we collected enough material to make the short film and accompanying photographs to support her thesis and promote her upcoming book.
friends of the earth
I filmed and edited this one off film about an investigation into upland peat bog burning in Yorkshire. I worked with campaigners and communication staff to produce a film that represented the field work of the small investigations unit and how that works towards FOEs wider campaign goals. Alongside the main film I produced a media package of footage and photographs to pitch to production companies, resulting in Countryfile producing a segment on the issue using the footage.
The Gecko project
I have been involved with the Gecko Project since it started, creating original video and photography content, filming and editing short profile pieces in Indonesia and editing explainer videos to drive traffic to the main investigation report. I also helped with the branding and concept of the project and briefing film makers, photographer, animators and designers. The videos have received over a million views and helped build over 20,000 followers across all channels, in turn driving high numbers to the Gecko Project reports and website.
changing markets
I have directed several films for Changing Markets, an organisation campaigning along side other NGOs to make businesses more sustainable. Working with staff across the organisation I developed concepts and scripts for each film, then directed and edited them. The films went out on Changing Markets, WeMove EU and Sum of Us social media channels and websites to drive traffic to digital reports, microsites and petitions. The films have been sited as having a major impact on the traffic produced and actions performed.
global witness
During my time working at Global Witness I oversaw the production of many films as well as developing video workflows and processes for the organisation. For the largest project I briefed the camera operator before he travelled into the jade mines in northern Myanmar. He returned with impressive footage that allowed us to cut this film. To ensure the film was suitable for its audience, we consulted closely with our partners and a media consultant in Myanmar. I organised and directed voiceover recordings in both English and Burmese. The film has almost a million views over both language versions.
Environmental investigation Agency
As the most senior member of the small visual communications team at EIA I oversaw the production of a hugely varied and successful range of films on a small budget, working closely with campaign and fundraising staff. These films boosted EIA’s visibility to potential new members and helped build a substantial following on social media.
